Saw Taken recently, the movie where Liam Neeson is ex-CIA or something and his daughter is kidnapped in Europe, so he has to go save her. I remember feeling awkward about it during its promotional run, because it looked horrible and forgettable but it seemed to be getting decent press. Turns out I was right (surprise). Maybe it's just because I don't really get the whole Bourne phenomenon, but the cleanness of the movie bugged me. I get that it's cool to see some superdude take out a thug in one fluid motion, but seeing it 70 times in the same movie is boring. It just gives this sense of the movie being rushed, and it didn't help that it was pretty short, too. In a movie like this you can depend on that plot point where the hero gets in over his head, and someone captures him or otherwise has him over a barrel and is about to kill him, just before the dramatic victory. In this movie it's literally like a 2 minute scene, and the way he gets out of it is... not really deus ex machina, just so mundane and stupid it makes the whole scene more dull retroactively. So out of the whole film there's like 5 minutes total where Liam catches a hiccup in his otherwise completely point-A-to-point-B successful trip to get his girl back. It just loses any sense of suspense or interest when the first idea to pop in his head works wonderfully to whatever he'd planned it to do. I notice a lot more of this kind of fantasy fiction going on and I really don't get why it's popular. I guess part of it is that he tortures a bad guy at some point, which people seem to enjoy seeing in movies.
Also, the guy curses from time to time and it's monumentally awkward coming out of Liam Neeson's mouth, not because of any association I carry about him but just because he does it so uncomfortably, like it's the first time he's ever sworn.

Watched Public Enemies last night. Realized how awesome Johnny Depp is for about the millionth time. <3 *sigh*
Oh and we started watching Bruno the other night, but it wasn't really that good and neither of us were interested enough to put it back on to finish it. Meh.
Today was my classic movie day. Watched Bell, Book, and Candle with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak. I like it, even though it's extremely inaccurate. Does have a young Jack Lemmon though.
Then I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's. Still love it. I want to read the Capote book though. That one guy who hosts TCM stuff that is sometimes on The Young Turks was saying that Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe to play Holly Golightly and thought Audrey Hepburn was awful in it and that the movie was nauseating. So I'd like to read it, since I've seen the movie about a billion times and still like it.... except for the highly offensive landlord scenes. Ugh.
Watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding now. Not because I really like it, but because I'm getting married. It's humorous enough to not turn off, but it's not something I'd recommend to people. I've been watching a ton of wedding shit lately because I guess I'm supposed to.

You know, whenever Daisy posts now I instantly assume it's Deacon.

Well, I watch whatever movie he watches, but he doesn't always watch what I watch since he's not as home as much.

The Fan is on AMC for some reason. This movie is retarded for forty different reasons and probably shouldn't ever be aired again.
EDIT: So much NIN in this movie. :p

I remember Swimfan coming out when I worked at a movie theater. Just thought I'd let you know!

That theater smelled like pee at all times. I remember the time that the movie just quit (for a long time) and you came into the theater and offered everyone free drinks.
Good times.

Man I had to do that so much. Free movie tickets, free popcorn, free everything. Those projectors were old and horrible.

When I saw The Patriot the projector jammed and the heat from the bulb melted the film. I forget what this is called but for some reason I feel like it is something along the lines of "brain shrink." But that doesn't really make sense.

It's called a brainwrap, and it's the most nightmarish thing you can imagine. The film gets jammed in the projectors gears and it just starts going everywhere. One piece of film stays in front of the bulb for too long, causing it to burn. Which is just called a "burn."
In your case though it sounds like the projector did you a favor!

I'm glad you were able to tell me that, because forgetting the term also meant I forgot the name of one of the comics I used to like.

Also I saw Extract tonight, about Jason Bateman as a factory owner who wants to fuck one of his employees. It was okay, had some good moments, but a lot of dry spell. I guess kind of like the main character! Brilliant!

So, did it smell like pee because it was an old theater in Houston (mold, humidity, etc.) or because disgruntled employees peed on stuff?

Haha it smelled bad because that theater was really old and had been flooded a few too many times.

Finally got to see A Serious Man today. Loved it. There's a lot of jokes I probably would have missed if I wasn't decently read when it comes to the Bible, and I'm sure there were plenty of things that still went over my head.
Awesome movie, I'll probably watch it again before I send it back to netflix.

Finally got around to watching Doubt. Thought it was great.

Yeah Doubt's pretty good. Has a heavy theater-for-cinema vibe to it.
I've been sick lately so I've been watching a ton of movies. Here are those that I can remember.
Cool Hand Luke was on one of those non-HBO stations that doesn't edit or cut to commercials, which was great. I feel a lot of kinship with Luke. At the end of the day he's a guy who can really roll with everything but little unwarranted injustices, and his inability to take that small amount of unwarranted shit in his life is his downfall. It's almost like two movies, and I never noticed the first time I saw it how relatively petty the events were that turned everything sour. With any other character without that central flaw, there really wouldn't ever be a turn in the movie.
Saw some shitty Netflix movie called Undead a bit ago. It's Australian and shitty, but it knows it. But even so, it's still pretty bad. To be fair it did keep my interest since it's kind of a mystery, but it gives me a bad feeling to even think about it so I don't feel like describing it any more.
Terminator 2 was on AMC or some shitty network with commercials and editing, but I got to watch it with Lily so it was fun. The best part of watching movies with her is how impressionable she is about everything. Like when T-1000 is walking from the helicopter, and the semi-truck driver comes over to help him and he just stabs him nonchalantly on his way to steal the truck, she gasps "That was mean." I watch movies pretty jadedly a lot of the time now, but her fascination with the guys being robots and how they can do what they do, and how she develops her idea of the different characters really boosts my enjoyment of the movie. I like her need to announce her predictions of the outcomes of different fights (she was right about T-1000 vs. T-800 near the end), and seeing it with new eyes makes it more clear just how damn cool it is. I was amazingly disappointed that Jasper would rather watch his shitty cartoons than this movie, but you can't always get what you want.
I guess nothing else is memorable enough to put in here.
