Re: Your Jammin' Jams

Listening to the Eagles of Death Metal's 'I Only Want You' over, and over. Eagerly anticipating their album on the 14th.

Eagles of Death Metal has Queen's of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and two other people I don't know because they changed their names for the band, and the only one I can recognize (by voice and picture) is Josh Homme.

EAGER BEAVER.

EDIT: Looking at the calendar and the 14th is not a Tuesday. Probably released on the 24th.

Re: Your Jammin' Jams

I really hate the mainstream = bad mentality.

I may be wrong, but i think that whole mentality started when "underground"/less popular bands went from almost unknown or had a cult following to mainstream, they changed their music to further cater to the wants and desires of what they thought the mainstream wanted - which usually was the exact opposite of the good stuff they were already putting out. Thus, being mainstream often now equates with selling out and bad, etc.

The Von Bondies - Pawn Shoppe Heart

I like these guys.. good 'ol (sort of garage) rock.  Jack White produced this album... and then beat up the lead singer.  Heh.  Anyway, it comes out in March, but until then... *whistles innocently*

Smashing Pumpkins- Machina II/ Friends and Enemies of Modern Music.

Haha... awesome stuff. 25 tracks, only 25 copies released in the pumpkins last recordings... their label refused to sell the album so the pumpkins gave the cds away for free to the fans and told them to bootleg them across the internet. The pumpkins shine here, showing not only the teenage angst of Mellon Collie but also the free, fun loving side of the band in songs like "Soul Power"(James Brown Cover). A must have for any pumpkins fan.

Well like I said, I get the point, but sometimes it's taken too far.  I mean, if something sucks, then you can hold being mainstream and manufactured against it, but it shouldn't work the other way around that you hold being mainstream against something before giving it a chance.

Anyway, seeing as the Audioslave CD I settled for has only really given me one more song to listen to, I've just been listening to my old playlist again.  Cake and Linkin Park, mostly, as I'd ignored them both for awhile, for some reason.

Re: Your Jammin' Jams

I like it.  I don't own it, they were just playing the album on XM.  But the show they were playing the album on was repeated a few times, so I've heard it a couple times tongue  This damn radio is going to cause me to buy lots of new music, I'm predicting.

Re: Your Jammin' Jams

The Beta Band= Coolness to the EXTREME......

I just went to the mall recently and purchased an Eels CD, Electroshock Blues....

I really quite enjoy this CD. It has a soft yet edgy sound to it. I like the raw and soothing quality that the singers voice has.  I just really really enjoy them quite a bit. I also like saying quite.

They are definately worth a listen to.....

I also bought a CD by The Album Leaf, One Day I'll be On Time.  They toured with Sigur Ros on their first U.S. tour, I guess to give you an idea of what their music is like. It is instrumental like Sigur Ros, but more mellow and soft.

I was wondering if anyone else have heard of these kids.

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

I like this album a lot.  It's one of those "gets better every time you listen to it" things.  And I've been listening to it A LOT.  Five times so far today.  It seems like I should have gotten sick of it by now.. but I haven't.  I don't know how I managed to avoid this for the last 13 years (ok so I was only 8 when it came out).  Probably because it's so non-radio-friendly, the only way you could've heard of it is from your cool friends.  I never had any of those. :razz2:

Blur - Modern Life is Rubbish

Been listening to it more lately.  It was hard to get into for some reason, but it's another one of those things that gets better the more you hear it and the more familiar you become with it.

I like this thread.  Gives a lot of leads to some good music.  So far not much total crap has been suggested here.

Re: Your Jammin' Jams

Well, after seeing Garden State, I picked up The Shins' two albums.  They're on the soundtrack and even play a role in the hooking up of the two main characters, is how those two things are connected.  Anyway, took me a while to get them, but they're great.  HNB introduced me to the band a year or so ago, and even though I liked the songs I downloaded, I guess I just wasn't in the right mood for it until now.  Because now I can't stop listening to 'em.

The Faint- Danse Macambre

such an awesome cd.  the only problem with it is the length of the cd. 9 tracks and 38 minutes long.  great beats and rythem and vocals and lyrics.  Great cd. check it out.

and
stereo lab- ABC Music

this cd is so smooth sounding and the singer sounds more like a back up singer.  she makes the instrumentals sound more like the focal point of the songs.  you should check this one out too.

Re: Your Jammin' Jams

Stereolab is my favorite groove. If you really like the ABC music CD, then you should give Emperor Tomato Ketchup a listen to. Alot of what is on the live BBC album is on E. T. C. It is really interesting to compare how different they sound.

Other Stereolab CD's that are great:
~ Sound-Dust
~ Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements
~ The Groop Played Space Age Bachelor Pad Music
~ Margerine Eclipse
~ Dots and Loops
